Research Associate

Overview

The Department of Immunobiology and Institute for Biomolecular Design and Discovery (IBDD) at Yale University West Campus (West Haven, Connecticut) invites applications for a full-time Research Associate position in the laboratory of Dr. Wei Hu. The Hu lab, which focuses on the study of T lymphocytes using innovative genetic, biochemical, and chemical tools, is currently investigating the differentiation and function of regulatory T cells in various physiological and pathological settings. The ideal candidate will possess qualities such as patience, organizational skills, adaptability, inquisitiveness, and a genuine passion for scientific discovery.

 

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities for the Research Associate role include:

  1. Order and organize laboratory equipment and supplies, including coordinating payments to core facilities.

  2. Prepare, aliquot, and manage inventories of common lab reagents.

  3. Maintain laboratory equipment, overseeing cleaning, data deletion, preventive maintenance, and scheduling repairs.

  4. Manage the lab’s experimental moue colony. Including breeding, weaning, tagging, and genomic DNA isolation from tissue biopsy. Coordinate shipping of mice to and from other institutions.

  5. Assist in optimizing, organizing, and updating lab protocols, lab safety plans, and animal protocols.

  6. Assist other lab members in their research projects as needed.

  7. Participate in lab meetings by presenting research work, discussing journal articles, and providing feedback on colleagues' work.

  8. Undertake other duties incidental to research activities.

 

Requirements

  1. Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline (preferably biology, chemistry, genetics, or a related field), or bachelor’s degree in similar fields plus 2 years of relevant experience.

  2. Strong aptitude for learning and multitasking.

  3. Attention to detail and robust organizational skills.

  4. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member.

  5. Prior research experience in molecular biology, tissue culture, flow cytometry, and mouse handling is highly desirable.
